One new mode, 'Capital Supremacy,' saw 40 players transition between dueling on land and in capital ships, earning points via capturing command post to bring in more AI reinforcements for their team. Dice's content updates have corrected this, bringing in a plethora of new multiplayer game modes and maps from all across the Star Wars franchise.
There was also initially a lack of content present, which was needed to sustain the otherwise fun multiplayer. In future updates, DICE disabled the microtransaction system and replaced it with a linear unlock progression that rewarded players as they leveled up the different classes in the game. This deterred many from buying the game and was the focus of many low score reviews. At launch, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was plagued with a heavily criticized loot box system that gave players significant gameplay advantages.
